A trend for super-slender towers in New York is on the rise and RB Systems is jumping on it with a speculative proposal for a 400-meter Midtown Manhattan skyscraper.
The office building would potentially be constructed on a currently vacant site at 265 West 45th Street. It would create an extreme height-to-width ratio with a plot measuring just 900 square meters and a height of 400 meters.
Rustem Baishev of RB Systems, its designer, chose a futuristic look for the office building, which would be wrapped in faceted glass panels to form a tube around a central core and surrounding office spaces. The shape was designed for optimum wind resistance. A software-controlled, ring-shaped damper would circle the core near the top of the building to curb sways caused by high winds. The open floor area would total 38,000 square meters with a structural system of cables twisting up behind the glass exterior.
